Comedy Clubs in Sheffield
With the shortest, darkest days upon us, we could all do with a bit more laughter in our lives right now. Lucky then, that you are a student at Sheffield, home to some brilliant comedy clubs that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Let’s take a look at some of the must-visit comedy clubs in Sheffield.
1. The Leadmill Comedy Nights
Although this iconic live venue was recently forced out of its home, the team behind The Leadmill continue to deliver an excellent lineup of entertainment, with comedy very much at the heart of it. Now split between two venues, 2026 promises a stellar season of stand-up, from household names like James Acaster and Lucy Porter to insta-raised artists such as Christopher Hall and Russell Hicks. This January sees the return of their monthly Comedy Club, where you can sit back and be entertained by four comedians, while indulging in delicious tacos and burritos from El Chappo.

2. Last Laugh Comedy Club at Sheffield City Hall
For a raucous, interactive comedy experience, head to this well-established comedy club, held in the spectacular surroundings of Sheffield City Hall’s Memorial Hall. Book early if you want a downstairs table - perfect if you’re in a gang or feeling sociable! Prefer to stay out of the spotlight? The upstairs offers a brilliant view with the added bonus of being safely out of the comedians’ eyeline. Local legend Toby Foster (he of the tiger face in Phoenix Nights) regularly MCs, introducing a rotating cast of comics, who next year will include Stephen Bailey, Faizan Shah and Jessie Nixon. Shows run every Friday and Saturday, with a bar and food service so you can settle in for the whole evening. And at just a tenner a ticket for students, it’s a good-value night out.

3. QUACKS
A great addition to Sheffield’s alternative comedy scene, Quacks aims to provide a welcoming platform for the LGBTQ+ community, their allies and anyone else who might find the world of stand-up a little intimidating. Sign up for a five-minute slot at their open-mic nights or simply settle in and enjoy other budding comics honing their craft. Who knows, you might just see the next big thing?

4. Comedy Nights at Crookes Social Club
A short taxi ride from the city centre (or hop on the number 52a bus) takes you to Crookes Social Club, a stalwart of the Sheffield entertainment scene. Host Rob Rouse pulls together an excellent lineup of names, with Taskmaster star Phil Ellis, Maisie Adam and Josh Jones due to perform in the coming months. Well worth the taxi fare.

5. Steel City Comedy
Comedy club virgin or unconvinced that comedy is for you? This community-driven club aims to make comedy accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Their line-up is brilliantly varied — stand-up, panel shows, sketches, improv and comedy quiz nights — and showcases grassroots performers as well as more established names. Many shows are either free entry or “pay as you feel”, making it a perfect option for those stretched student budgets.

6. The Shrimps Comedy Improv
If you like your comedy on the unpredictable side, these improv shows should be right up your strasse. The audience’s suggestions help shape the sketches, so no show is ever the same — don’t be afraid to shout out ideas! The Shrimps put on a selection of live improvisation shows and workshops throughout the year, which are open to everyone, regardless of whether you’re a University of Sheffield student or not.
